Paul McDonald
Paul McDonald is in his 20th year as the head men’s basketball coach at Vermilion Community College. McDonald hails from Chisholm, Minnesota, and is a part of Minnesota’s basketball family. His father is the winningest coach in Minnesota basketball history with over 800 wins and counting. All of Coach McDonald’s brothers and sisters are in the basketball coaching profession. Following his graduation from South Dakota State University, McDonald began his coaching career at Cotton, MN and Tower-Soudan, MN, before taking over as the head man of the Ironmen in 1990. Coach McDonald has been named State, Region and District Coach of the Year and has been a finalist for NJCAA National Coach of the Year twice. He received his M.Ed. from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Don Peschel
Don Peschel is the head boys basketball coach in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, where he also teaches sixth grade. Don was an assistant football coach for 13 years. He led the Mainstreeters to the State Tournament in 1998. Don was named Section 5AA coach of the year in 1998. Peschel played basketball for the legendary coach Dave Retzlaff at Fergus Falls Community College, before completing his education at Bemidji State University. His first coaching/teaching experience was a one year stint in Browerville, Minnesota before accepting a job in his home town of Sauk Centre where he currently resides. In 1999, Don completed his masters degree through the University of Minnesota in Curriculum. Currently he serves on the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association and will be the president of this organization for the years 2005 and 2006. In the spring of the year, he enjoys umpiring high school baseball and softball games. His other interests include spending time with his wife and 3 daughters, hunting, fishing and watching a variety of sports.
Tom Saterdalen
Tom Saterdalen has been a teacher/coach for 38 years, the past 29 at Bloomington Jefferson High School. During his tenure as the head hockey and tennis coach, his teams have won nine state championships. He was selected Minnesota Coach of the Year five times and was chosen National Coaches Association Special Coach of the Year. He has developed over 70 Division 1 and 80 Division 2 & 3 athletes. Nineteen of his hockey players have gone on to the professional ranks and 7 to the NHL.
