      This course will take an in-depth look at how to challenge students/athletes by creating a motivating environment in the classroom and on the playing field. Course material will focus on leadership styles, goal-setting guidelines, performance feedback, teacher-coach-parent relationships, communication with students/athletes and mental training techniques designed to help individuals achieve peak performance. Discussions will also include the “other things” that teachers and coaches deal with daily that are rarely mentioned in other graduate level classes. Class activities will involve guest speakers, group discussions in which students are encouraged to share their own personal experiences, as well as videotapes featuring some of the top speakers in the nation on mental training and teaching/coaching excellence.
