"Again, another great course. I especially appreciated the topic on building rapport as well as the thoughts about making your class a transformative experience for your students. The ideas and wisdom in this class can be great additions to all teachers strategies to use in the classroom."--Cory V., CA
"Teach Like a Pirate offers unique, powerful, and straightforward insights into keeping students engaged and interested in the daily lessons. The practical and intentional changes teachers make in their lessons suggested in this course provide students with a reason to come to class."--Alicia P., OH
"This class was useful and will help me in the future."--Scott P., SD
"I liked this course a lot because it applied things that I can go back and try in my classroom. This course was refreshing for me after taking my masters classes in administration. I don't plan to be an administrator any time soon, so this class kickstarted some thoughts and new things that I can take back and apply to my classroom right now."-- Jill K., NE
"The course gave me more ideas to increase student engagement. I love the presentation hooks and there are a lot of them to utilize. I also like how Burgess explains to ask yourself the right questions to help you do the right work."--Julie S., IA
"Thank you! The material was clear and appropriate for the course. I really enjoy taking these independent studies through Educational Resources of MN."--Kristie A., NE
"Another great class by Educational Resources of Minnesota! I really like these courses as everything is based on your own pave. I was able to finish the book then answer the questions throughout the time or at a later date. Also, there were a wide variety of hooks, implementations and questions throughout the book to allow me to think about my own classroom and determine what I want to use next year in my classroom. The best part of this course, it only took me 10 days to complete while taking care of my two children over the summer. Everything was easy to find, understand and complete." --Jena V., MN
"I was worried at first when I realized this course was book-based rather than video based, but once I started reading "Teach Like A Pirate," I was quickly pulled in. The author presented tremendous insight to cultivating classes and lessons that are engaging and meaningful. I enjoyed the class, as I have others I have taken from Educational Resources." --Lynn L. NE
"This was a great course to take to re-light the spark in my teaching after a crazy pandemic year. The course validated things I am already doing in class and gave me creative new ways to make students successful in the classroom. I am excited to use some of the hooks in my class this fall." --Kara C., OH
This was my first independent study course that I have taken and I was very nervous for the entire process, however, as I started I found that it was very simple to complete and work through. I not only found it to be worth my time, I also learned a lot from the book and the guided questions that were asked of me to complete at the end of each lesson. I would be more than willing to recommend this course to my colleagues simply because it was so relatable to my everyday life in the classroom unlike other courses I have taken in the past.
