This independent study course is designed to help teachers in all academic areas, not just reading instructors, to broaden their knowledge on how to motivate students to read in any subject area.
So long as teachers are promoters of learning, they also need to be promoters of reading. This course promotes reading in all subject areas by covering concepts, tools and strategies that teachers of all subjects can implement in their own classrooms.
In this course you will:
- Learn new strategies to motivate students of all reading levels, in all subject areas to become better readers
- Create and develop your own reading ideas and examples to implement in the classroom
- Reflect on current strategies used in the classroom and understand how to modify those strategies to create stronger reading environments
- Develop reading techniques unique to your own classroom subject area
- Acquire skills beneficial not only for your students, but for yourself as an educator as well.
- Reflect on the effects of implementing particular reading techniques in the classroom
- Learn practical techniques to improve students’ vocabulary development, phonics and comprehension
- Use assessment tools to diagnose individual readers’ problems and implement strategies for solutions to these problems
